Alien Baby

We have an Alien Baby. The other day a student from BYU called to ask if we would help him with his research project. They are doing a study of infants between 5-6 months of age to see how they respond to certain stimuli. So when we got there this morning they fitted Reese with little little hat that made her look-- well like an alien. They showed her several pictures of caterpillars each one associated by a tone. After one round of pictures then they showed it to her again but the tones were different. They wanted to see if she would register the difference in stimuli at this age. She sat very still, watch the T.V. and performed just like an angel. Has you can see from the picture that is a feat in and of itself. Well for our trouble they gave us a picture of her in the beautiful alien cap and a certificate to say thank you. I included a picture of her after all of this so you can remember that she doesn't really look like an alien.

Mom's Little Helpers

We have entered into a new stage in our lives. Lance and Claire have discovered the joy of cleaning. They are very helpful every time I pull out a washrag and a spray bottle. The other day I was cleaning off the fronts of the kitchen cabinets and I found it a lot quicker and a lot more fun with their help. The kitchen chairs even got washed off because we ran out of cabinets before they ran out of enthusiasm. Yesterday I had to wash a few dishes by hand and much to my surprise I soon was kicked out of the kitchen. What really happened was that I took a break from washing dishes to change the laundry and when I returned I found both of them at the sink doing the work for me. All of you more experienced mothers out there: How long until the excitement wears off. I guess I will have to enjoy it and take advantage of it while it lasts.

April Fools

I taught joyschool this week and in an attempt to make jolly the holiday of April Fools we talked about how the holiday came to be, how other countries around the world celebrate it and then we played a few prank ourselves. We made Mother's Day cards that said Happy April Fool's day inside and then the kids made tissue flowers to give to their mom's with the card. For our snack I had made little miniature hamburgers out of vanilla wafers and peppermint paddies. All of these ideas I got off of http://www.familyfun.com/ a great website for crafts, recipes and a anything else that you might need. Later I had the kids pose for their weekly letter picture. We are learning about the letter Y this week, if you can't figure out what they are supposed to be. For your information Anjeanette put me onto another great website for anything church related: primary, sharing time, lessons, family home evenings, enrichment, achievement days etc.. it is http://www.sugerdoodle.net/. It is a great tool. They had some fun activity books that you could down load for kids to do during General Conference. Well enjoy!!

Picasso

Claire takes after her mother in more than just personality. She loves to color, play with play-dough, and paint. These are the activities that occupy her while Lance is at school. Like I mentioned before she is really in to pretending to feed her dolls and pinky pie (her my little pony). The other night while we were trying to put her to bed this is what we found.

Lance

Well today was Lance's first talk in primary. He did such a wonderful job. He spoke loudly and as clearly as his tonsils would allow ( I'll come back to that later). He spoke on this months primary theme :"Jesus Christ is my Savior." I of course composed the talk, and added in pictures for visual effect, and then he chose Dad to help him give the talk. At first I was a little disappointed he did want me to help, but as he was giving his talk I was glad that I was able to sit in the front row and watch his little face as he smiled so big and was so proud of himself. He makes my heart smile. Today while we were eating dinner he and I were telling Dad about what we learned in class. We were telling him the story of Jonah and the Whale when Lance said, "And the whale spit Jonah out of his blow hole onto his back and then he swam to shore and buried his feet in the sand." He was laughing so hard at the vision that this image had painted in his mind that he could barely breath. He is quite the story teller. When we were eating snack during sunbeams today he informed his class that he had gone to the doctor. "Well, My left tonsil is sooo big that the doctor will have to take a rocket ship and fly it into my mouth and take it out, and when he is done I get to eat ice cream for two whole weeks." I am sure that he has every kid in his class wishing that they to had tonsils that were "soo big". It is true, Lance's left tonsil as the Doctor put it is; "abnormally large for even a large tonsil like his right one." So on April 9th he gets to go in for a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. Hopefully this will help him to sleep better (he snores as bad as his dad), speak better (when they are really swollen it sounds like he is speaking with a mouth full of marbles), and swallow better (he has to chew his food forever before he can swallow or he chokes). I will however miss the way that he says little "iddle", it is hard to explain you just have to hear for yourself, it is darn cute.

Lance loves school, Geo tracks and of course anything that has wheels. He enjoys watching racing with his dad and likes to ride in the "Alfa Rameo" rather than the "carsifica." He has really warmed up the the warming weather and has taken to "needing to pee outside". The other night while we were and Jacob and Embers house for Jonah's birthday we found Lance and his cousin Abe standing side by side outside in the backyard peeing. They had been playing outside with the motorized jeep and I guess that they were having so much fun that they couldn't be trouble to come inside to use the bathroom. I have caught him several time doing this and he has even walk outside to go pee rather than use the toilet inside. He is a rather good kid for the most part but the other night we did have to put soap in his mouth. (He said crap) When I took it out he informed me in a rather load and upset voice that I had gotten soap on his tongue. I had to remind him that boys who used dirty words had to have them washed clean. He is a great big brother except for when he plays a little rough with Claire. He likes to have tummy time with Reese first thing in the morning while we are still in bed talking about his dreams (always about the racetrack). We are really quite glad to have the little tike around. That is about all I have to share with you all right now except for a few pictures. The first one is of Lance in my glasses, the second is of him with his dog Harvey, the third is of him hugging (strangling) Claire, and the fourth is of his tonsils.
